Football: Arsenal's top-four hopes dented by defeat at Wolves
WOLVERHAMPTON, England (REUTERS) - Arsenal's fragility on the road returned as a 3-1 defeat at Wolverhampton Wanderers on Wednesday (April 24) put a huge dent in their hopes of a top-four finish in the Premier League.
Unai Emery's side needed only a point to reclaim fourth spot from Chelsea but conceded three times before the break against a clinical Wolves side who moved up to seventh.
Ruben Neves opened the scoring with a superb 28th minute free kick before Matt Doherty's glancing header made it 2-0 nine minutes later.
Dreadful Arsenal defending allowed Diogo Jota to surge through and fire a shot past Bernd Leno on the stroke of halftime.
A late Sokratis Papastathopoulos header from Granit Xhaka's cross was scant consolation for the Gunners fans who watched their side lose a seventh away league game this season.
With three games left Arsenal remain in fifth place with 66 points, a point behind Chelsea and four behind third-placed Tottenham Hotspur. Manchester United are sixth with 64.
Wolves rose to seventh spot with 51 points - a position that could offer a route into European football next season - and are set to become the first promoted club to finish in the top eight since Reading in 2006-07.
Arsenal have now lost two matches in a row following Sunday's home defeat by Crystal Palace and they may need the backup option of winning the Europa League to claim a place in next season's Champions League.
Emery remained confident they can finish in the top four.
"We can be frustrated but the Premier League is about being consistent over 38 matches," the Spaniard said.
"Today, we're disappointed but we need to remember how we were three months ago.
"We can be optimistic and recover for the top four."
Arsenal dominated possession in the first 20 minutes but Joao Moutinho served notice of Wolves' threat as he curled wide after a flowing counter-attack.
Nacho Monreal was then penalised for a foul on Jota and Neves sent his curling free kick past Leno.
Arsenal switched off at a corner in the 37th minute, allowing Moutinho and Jonny to exchange passes before the latter's cross was glanced by Doherty past a flailing Leno.
In first-half stoppage time Arsenal carelessly conceded possession and Jota's angled shot beat Leno.
Arsenal did tighten up after the break but the damage had already been done.
Incredibly Wolves have now picked up 16 points in their matches against the current top six this season with wins over Tottenham, Chelsea, Manchester United and now Arsenal.

Stags coach Kadir urges better focus after last-gasp goals
Tampines Rovers head coach Kadir Yahaya stepped into the press conference and told the media: "Let me catch my breath first."
The adrenaline was clearly still coursing through his veins. His team scored two last-gasp goals in added time to beat Nagaworld FC 4-2 in their AFC Cup Group F match at Jalan Besar Stadium yesterday.
The Stags cemented their place at the top of the group with 10 points, three ahead of Hanoi FC who beat Yangon FC 5-2 in the Asian Football Confederation's second-tier club competition.
Said Kadir: "We really tried to attack from the start to try and break the deadlock, and we could see the opponents trying to defend as much as they could.
"I think we deserved to win and get the three points tonight."
Tampines took the lead in the third minute when Zehrudin Mehmedovic slid a defence-splitting pass to Irwan Shah, who made no mistake with a clinical finish.
But the Cambodian team pulled level in the 14th minute through midfielder Kouch Dani.
The home team thought they had the win in the bag with Yasir Hanapi's half-volley in the 87th minute, only for Nagaworld to equalised again through Omogba Esoh on the stroke of full-time.
There was still time for more late drama, though, as Tampines striker Khairul Amri sent the 1,283 spectators into delirium with a superb overhead kick in the 91st minute.
Jordan Webb then made sure of the three points with the final goal just seconds before the final whistle.
Kadir described the final 10 minutes as "unbelievable", adding: "It's good for the fans on both sides but, from a coach's point of view, I was quite angry with the goals we conceded.
"After we scored, we lost concentration and this is our main problem we have to address."
The Stags play Yangon at Jalan Besar Stadium on May 1 before their last match at Hanoi on May 15.
Kadir added: "We need to be more clinical in front of goal. If we progress, we're going to expect much better teams and much better defence."

Everton head a crucial week for United's top-four hopes
LONDON • Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has five Premier League games left in the season to prove conclusively the club's hierarchy was not hasty in making him Jose Mourinho's permanent successor last month.
After a spectacular start as caretaker manager, during which he won his first eight games and lost just one of his opening 17 matches in charge, United have since suffered a precipitous drop in form.
Five defeats have come in their last seven games, a run which has seen them exit the FA Cup and Champions League, leaving a top-four finish in serious doubt.
They now face a pivotal week, starting with a trip to Everton today before hosting Manchester City (Wednesday), who are locked in a title tussle with Liverpool, and top-four rivals Chelsea (Sunday).
Solskjaer insisted he could not have done a better job given their league position when he took over on Dec 19, when they were 11 points off the top four, but now have "five games to see if we can finish it off".
Although their season ends with a visit to already relegated Huddersfield and a home game against Cardiff, whose relegation fate might also be sealed by then, their next three games are likely to determine whether the club will cement one of the two Champions League places they are competing for with the Blues, Arsenal and Tottenham.
But Solskjaer does not believe his team have any added advantage over the three London clubs who are still in Europe. Spurs will face Ajax in the Champions League semi-final and both Arsenal and Chelsea are also in the last four of the Europa League.
The Norwegian said: "It will give them (United's rivals) a boost playing those games, that's what you want as a player.
"These three games are our short-term focus and we shouldn't think about anything other than having a great week ahead of us."
Denying that his elevation has had a negative effect on his players' performances, Solskjaer insisted it was down to "margins".
However, his critics are beginning to sharpen their knives, with pundit Jermaine Jenas telling BBC Sport his appointment as United's full-time manager was "an emotional decision" and not a "thought-out logical decision for the long term".
He added: "I don't think they needed to try and find someone who can get close to what (former manager Alex) Ferguson has done, they needed to find (a new identity). I don't think they know what they're doing."

Indonesian football chief grilled over match-fixing
JAKARTA • Indonesia's top football official, who has been in the job less than a month, was questioned by police yesterday over a match-fixing scandal that has rocked the country's domestic league.
Joko Driyono became acting chairman of the Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) in late January after Edy Rahmayadi stepped down in the wake of a corruption probe that has seen police identify more than a dozen suspects.
Joko was questioned yesterday over allegations he was involved in destroying evidence of match-fixing. National police spokesman Dedi Prasetyo said: "The main focus of today's examination concerns the problem of destruction, theft and removal of evidence."
Police raided Joko's apartment last week and confiscated laptops, flash drives and dozens of documents, including match and financial records. He has been slapped with a 20-day travel ban, but has not yet been arrested.
Indonesian football has been rocked by a series of match-fixing allegations, with the association and police announcing a crackdown in December after a PSSI executive member was caught on tape trying to bribe a coach approximately US$10,000 (S$13,600) to throw a second-division game.
He resigned and was handed a three-year ban and fine.
While it has a low international profile, Indonesia has attracted ex-Premier League players including former Chelsea star Michael Essien and former Tottenham midfielder Didier Zokora.
But Indonesian football has been tarnished on the global stage by a host of problems over the years, including deadly hooliganism and foreign players dying after going unpaid and being unable to afford medical care.

Heart and fight key to Spurs stunning win, says Eriksen
AMSTERDAM (REUTERS) - Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen said they threw tactics out the window and relied on grit and heart to come back from 3-0 down on aggregate to beat Ajax Amsterdam on away goals and reach the Champions League final on Wednesday (May 8).
Having lost the first leg in London 1-0, Tottenham got off to the worst possible start in Amsterdam by going 2-0 down on the night.
The second leg turned on its head after halftime, however, as Lucas Moura scored twice in quick succession before netting a 96th minute effort to complete his hat-trick and make it 3-3 on aggregate.
"It was a non-tactical performance, it was more of a fight, more of a heart performance, and that's how we won it," Danish playmaker Eriksen told BT Sport.
"It was a ridiculous game. We were really far down, we tried to fight back and we're just lucky. I feel sorry for Ajax, they played a very good game against us.
"In the end we're just lucky we scored. It's a relief, because we've been fighting for this and I think it's a dream for everyone to be in the Champions League final."
The midfielder revealed that there was no great tactical change at halftime as Spurs simply rolled up their sleeves and went at Ajax in the second half.
"We weren't able to look ourselves in the mirror if we (were to) go down three or four nil today - we had to fight back, there was no other option," Eriksen said.
After Liverpool fought back from a 3-0 first-leg defeat to beat Barcelona 4-3 on aggregate on Tuesday, the final will be an all-English affair.
Spurs defender Danny Rose said that he had taken inspiration from the Merseysiders.
Â
Â
Â
Â
"We saw Liverpool last night. It goes to show it's not over until it's over. Disappointed with the first leg, how we started and we started like that tonight. But after the break we came out," Rose said.
"The gaffer mentioned Liverpool's display at the hotel before the match - the gaffer doesn't mind us losing but we have to lose the right way."
Moura, however, was not prepared to let the match slip, and slotted the winner for Spurs deep in stoppage time.
"It's been a rollercoaster of a season. For him (Moura) to get us in the final, he'll be a hero. I hope he gets a statue in England after this ... I'm blown away, there's really no words for it," Eriksen said.
There was one major tactical shift that did play a crucial role in the victory, however. At half-time Pochettino took out midfielder Victor Wanyama and replaced him with Spanish forward Fernando Llorente.
Llorente, whose main asset is his height and strength in the air, placed himself on Ajax defender Daley Blind and that upset the solidity of the Dutch defence.
The Spaniard's presence caused confusion and created instability which Moura was able to exploit to the full.
With a big man as a focal point for the attack, Tottenham were able to take a more direct approach - with crosses from deep and in the latter stages, hopeful punts into the box.
Llorente would not have been on the field had Spurs' first choice striker Harry Kane been fit but the injured England captain was in the dressing room at the break and he said the focus was purely on effort.
"At half time we said it is 45 minutes to give everything... the lads dug deep, showed passion, showed character, showed heart and that is what it's all about," said Kane.
"Over the two legs we didn't play as well as we would have liked but we found a way to win," he added.
Former England and Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand, in Amsterdam as a pundit for BT Sport, said the Llorente introduction had been key.
"Fernando Llorente - what a substitution. He stood on Daley Blind. Blind couldn't deal with him and the boys came up behind him."

Football: Solskjaer has made Man United 'very dangerous', says Arsenal's Emery
LONDON (AFP) - Arsenal manager Unai Emery says Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made Manchester United a much more dangerous team since taking over from Jose Mourinho.
Emery's side host United in the FA Cup fourth round on Friday and the Spaniard expects a stern test from Solskjaer's revitalised team.
Arsenal drew 2-2 with United at Old Trafford in the Premier League last month, shortly before Mourinho was sacked as manager after a wretched run of results.
Since then, Solskjaer, hired from Molde as interim boss, has overseen seven successive wins in all competitions.
Solskjaer's approach has won over a United squad that grew tired of Mourinho's spikey personality, and Emery is suitably impressed.
"It's a different team. It's the same players but they're playing with a big performance now," Emery told reporters on Wednesday (Jan 23).
"I was watching their last matches and each player has a lot of confidence, with big performances, and now they are very dangerous.
"For us, it's good because it's a very big test for us in this competition."
Arsenal's preparation for the United clash included a team-building paintball trip, but it has been a difficult few days for the club.
It was announced on Monday that head of recruitment Sven Mislintat will leave next month having only been at Arsenal for a little over a year.
A day later, Gunners right-back Hector Bellerin learned he could miss up to nine months after suffering ruptured knee ligaments in the 2-0 win over Chelsea on Saturday.
Emery was asked about both issues and believes Arsenal should take their time in appointing a successor to Mislintat, with Roma's director of football Monchi linked to a similar role in north London.
Asked if it was important to swiftly find a replacement for Mislintat, Emery replied: "Maybe if you do this recruitment very quickly, maybe you can make a mistake.
"I think it's better to do without that, being calm and also finding the best possible person to do this job like we want.
"I think the club is working on that. It's not my issue. I can say the same: if the club decided to sign one sporting director, then I will agree with them."
Bellerin will undergo surgery and could miss the start of next season given the severity of the damage to his knee.
"We were sad and we are sad now after his injury," Emery added.
"I think this year is very difficult for big injuries like Hector, Rob Holding and (Danny) Welbeck. But football is like that.
"We need to treat these injuries like a normality in football, but we are very sad for that."

Football: Liverpool back on top with 3-2 Newcastle win but Salah injured
NEWCASTLE (AFP) - Liverpool struck late through Divock Origi to move back top of the Premier League with a thrilling 3-2 win at Newcastle on Saturday (May 4) and keep their hopes of a first title for 29 years alive but suffered a major scare after injury to Mohamed Salah.
Liverpool lost Salah to a head knock that will make him a doubt for Tuesday's Champions League semi-final, second leg against Barcelona.
Newcastle had twice come from behind through Christian Atsu and Salomon Rondon to cancel out goals from Virgil van Dijk and Salah.
However, Jurgen Klopp's men piled the pressure back on Manchester City by moving two points clear of the champions thanks to Origi's header four minutes from time.
The title remains in City's hands as they have two games remaining to Liverpool's one.
However, in a recurring theme of a thrilling title race, Liverpool dug deep late on to continue asking questions of the champions.
Faced with a difficult balancing act to strike between keeping Liverpool's hopes of the title alive and preparing for Barcelona's visit to Anfield in midweek, Klopp made four changes to the side beaten 3-0 in the first leg at the Camp Nou in midweek, while Roberto Firmino again missed out due to a minor groin tear.
Â
Trent Alexander-Arnold was one of those recalled and the England right-back was to have an eventful evening at both ends.
The visitors' showed no signs of tiredness early on as Salah twice fired off target at the back post, but Newcastle were orchestrators of their downfall when the opening goal arrived on 13 minutes.
Alexander-Arnold's corner found Van Dijk completely unmarked as Rondon slipped and the PFA's Player of the Year powered home his fifth goal of the season.
Newcastle had barely ventured over the halfway line in the first 20 minutes, but levelled with their first serious attack.
Matt Ritchie's driven cross was turned goalwards by Rondon, whose shot was saved on the line by the arm of Alexander-Arnold.
A penalty and a red card would likely have followed for the Liverpool defender had Atsu not put home the rebound.
All of a sudden Newcastle looked the more dangerous side as Ayoze Perez turned Van Dijk before smashing off the crossbar.
However, an enthralling first 28 minutes took another twist when Alexander-Arnold made the most of his reprieve to still be on the field with his second assist of the night.
His cross found Salah inside the area, but the Egyptian still had plenty to do as he cushioned a finish into the far corner on his weaker right foot to move two in front of teammate Sadio Mane and Sergio Aguero in the race for the Golden Boot.
Mane could have made it 3-1 before the break when he was denied by Martin Dubravka and Daniel Sturridge, deputising for Firmino, also blazed over a golden opportunity early in the second period to Klopp's dismay.
Moments later that miss looked to be all the more costly as Liverpool did not clear their lines from a corner and the ball broke for Rondon to fire sweetly past the helpless Alisson Becker.
Worse was to come for Liverpool as Salah was caught on the head by Dubravka as the Slovakian goalkeeper raced from his goal to punch the ball to safety.
He was stretchered off, his hands over his face to applause from both sets of supporters.
Without two thirds of their prolific frontline, Liverpool would have been forgiven for thinking their chase of City was up.
But, not for the first time this season, Origi, who scored a 96th minute winner against Everton in the Merseyside derby in December, came off the bench to score a vital late goal as he got his head to Xherdan Shaqiri's free-kick.

Football: Ronaldo and Juventus will avoid US amid rape investigation
NEW YORK (NYTIMES) - Organisers of a high-profile summer tournament for world soccer's biggest club teams have decided to keep Juventus and its star Cristiano Ronaldo away from the United States this year, eliminating the risk of the Portuguese star's being detained by authorities as part of a rape investigation in Las Vegas.
While the bulk of the games in the tournament, the International Champions Cup, will take place in the United States as usual, Juventus' games will be a part of the Asian version of the annual event.
Juventus will be joined there - most likely in China and Singapore - by Premier League teams Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United.
Ronaldo, a five-time world player of the year, is in his first season in Italy's top league after Juventus paid more than US$114 million (S$154 million) to acquire him from Real Madrid last July.
Only months after his transfer, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said it had reopened an investigation into accusations by an American woman, Kathryn Mayorga, who said Ronaldo raped her in a Las Vegas hotel room in 2009 and later paid her US$375,000 for her silence.
Ronaldo and his lawyers repeatedly denied the rape accusation when it emerged in September; Ronaldo labelled it "fake news" in a video posted on one of his social media accounts, and at one point his lawyers threatened to sue the German newsmagazine that was the first to publish Mayorga's accusations.
Juventus stood behind its star, too, expressing appreciation for his "great professionalism and dedication" and saying Mayorga's accusations "do not change this opinion."
Â

Â
Juventus has a multiyear agreement to play in the International Champions Cup, which is organised by New York-based Relevent Sports.
Ronaldo's legal troubles played a role in shaping plans for Juventus' participation, according to people familiar with this summer's schedule, which will be released next week.
A spokesman for Juventus, which is on course to win an eighth straight Italian league championship, said "going east" to Asia was normal after spending recent preseasons in the United States.
While preseason tours are not seen as serious competition, they are vital for teams' preparations before the new season, and Juventus would have drawn unwanted scrutiny had it travelled to the US without Ronaldo, its star attraction.
The case against Ronaldo resurfaced after German magazine Der Spiegel said it had obtained confidential documents related to the case, and the purported payment by Ronaldo to settle it, from whistleblower platform Football Leaks.
Around the same time, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said it had reopened its investigation into the rape accusation, following up on information it said had been provided by the victim.
Ronaldo, now 33, was a star at England's Manchester United when he met Mayorga, now 35, at a Las Vegas nightclub in 2009, just before his record-breaking transfer to Real Madrid. He invited her and others to his suite in the early hours of June 13, 2009, she said, where she says he sexually assaulted her.
A number of the documents Mayorga's lawyers say support her claim were published by Der Spiegel, which also published a lengthy interview with Mayorga. Ronaldo's lawyers have questioned the authenticity of some of the documents published by Der Spiegel but have not denied that Ronaldo and Mayorga had a sexual encounter, which they contend was consensual.
According to her lawsuit, Mayorga reported being assaulted to police later that day and underwent a medical examination, during which evidence was collected in what is sometimes known as a rape kit.
Las Vegas police have acknowledged that Mayorga filed a report and was examined, but police said she did not name her attacker at the time.
The case was reopened at Mayorga's request in September.

LONDON • England's Football Association has labelled troublemaking fans at the Nations League in Portugal "an embarrassment" after they clashed with police on Wednesday night.
Riot police charged England fans in the centre of Porto after beer glasses were thrown in the special fan zone set up for the Nations League finals.
"The FA strongly condemns the scenes witnessed in Porto overnight.
"Anyone responsible for these disturbances cannot be seen as true England supporters and are not welcome in football," said the FA statement.
"They are an embarrassment to the team and the thousands of well-behaved fans who follow England in the right way. We are liaising with the UK Football Policing Unit."
England supporters were staying in Porto ahead of yesterday's semi-final in nearby Guimaraes against the Netherlands and had gathered in the fan zone to watch Wednesday's match between Portugal and Switzerland, which the hosts won 3-1 with a Cristiano Ronaldo hat-trick, on outdoor big screens.
The Guardian newspaper reported that hundreds of England fans were baton-charged by riot police after they threw beer glasses.
Police condemned the "completely unacceptable" behaviour which also included smashing a car window, forcing roads to be closed to traffic and singing offensive songs.
Three England fans were reportedly arrested.
"There was a scuffle between English and Portuguese supporters, with bottles thrown, and the police had to intervene," Portuguese police spokesman Alexandre Coimbra told Agence France-Presse.
"The English supporters turned against the police who arrested two of them and identified a third."
However, several England fans said they had been unfairly targeted by police. One supporter showed The Guardian a large welt on his back, which he said had been caused by a police baton.
"I was just watching the match with my mates when it all kicked off," he said.
"Someone came at me from the side and whacked me."
The incidents are hugely frustrating for the FA, which only last week urged supporters of the national team to stamp out "embarrassing" anti-social behaviour.

Football: Aguero hat-trick fires Man City to 3-1 win over Arsenal
MANCHESTER (REUTERS) - Sergio Aguero's hat-trick led Manchester City to a 3-1 win over Arsenal on Sunday (Feb 3) and back into second place in the Premier League, two points behind leaders Liverpool.
The victory put the pressure on Liverpool ahead of their trip to West Ham United on Monday. Juergen Klopp's side have 61 points, with champions City on 59 and Tottenham Hotspur on 57.
City were utterly dominant after going in 2-1 up at the break, keeping Gunners keeper Bernd Leno busy as they peppered his goal with shots from distance while the Londoners, looking bereft of self-belief, did not manage a shot on target in the second half.
Pep Guardiola's side needed a positive response after Tuesday's surprise defeat at Newcastle United, and within a minute, any nerves among the home crowd vanished.
It took 48 seconds for Aguero to open the scoring with a stooping header after Aymeric Laporte robbed a far-too casual Alex Iwobi and whipped in a cross.
City were dominant but the Gunners got back on level terms in the 11th minute when Nacho Monreal flicked on a Lucas Torreira corner and defender Laurent Koscielny headed in from two yards out.
But with Kevin De Bruyne beginning to put his injury troubles behind him and looking like his true self in midfield and Bernardo Silva teasing Arsenal from the right flank, City looked unperturbed by the equaliser.
It was no surprise when Aguero struck again just before the break, tapping in a low cross from Raheem Sterling, who had combined well with Ilkay Gundogan in the build-up.
De Bruyne forced three saves out of Leno in the opening 10 minutes of the second half before City finally made their dominance count.
City's record scorer wrapped up the win, with Sterling again the provider, but as Aguero slid in to meet his low cross, the ball appeared to go in off his arm - a fact the player conceded after seeing the television replay.
"I thought it was the chest, but now that I've seen it on the TV, I think it was a handball," he said.
"I'm very happy, it is important to score and win… It's important to fight every game. Now we have to think about Everton (on Wednesday) because it will be so difficult," he added.
It was Aguero's 10th hat-trick in the Premier League, a record bettered only by Alan Shearer who scored 11. The Argentine striker has netted 20 goals in all competitions this season - the sixth straight campaign he has reached that tally.
Guardiola believes City now face greater pressure than rivals Liverpool.
"I prefer to be in Liverpool's position rather than where we are," he said.
"The pressure is when you're behind. If you lose points it's tougher. When you're top with distance you can lose points and still be there.
"We didn't recognise our team against Newcastle. Today, at least, we came back," Guardiola added.
Arsenal boss Unai Emery accepted the scoreline reflected the difference in quality between the teams.
"They showed their superiority today. They showed today with the possession against us, getting our defence position very deep.
"The result is the difference between us," he said.

Chelsea didn't play as a team, laments Sarri
LONDON • Much has been said of Chelsea's lack of a clinical forward but manager Maurizio Sarri said that was not the main reason the Blues fell to a shock 1-0 defeat by Leicester City in the Premier League on Saturday.
Instead, the Italian tactician was left scratching his head why his players did not react to Jamie Vardy's 51st-minute goal at Stamford Bridge which eventually condemned the Blues to their first home loss of the season .
"I was really very happy at the end of the first half - we played very well. We were dangerous, we gave the opponents nothing," said Sarri.
"After the goal, the reaction was, for me, a strange reaction, not in the right direction, not as a team, but as 11 different players.
"There was time to score, without reacting as a team shocked, as a team in mental confusion."
With Alvaro Morata fighting his way back to fitness from a knee injury and Olivier Giroud struggling for goals, Sarri deployed Belgian winger Eden Hazard up front in a "false nine" position flanked by Willian and Pedro.
Chelsea enjoyed a lot of possession but could not convert it into clear-cut chances, with Hazard missing the two chances which came his way.
In the first half, he struck Kasper Schmeichel's crossbar with a powerful drive and the Danish goalkeeper pulled off a fine save to tip another Hazard effort to safety after the break.
Giroud was thrown on for the final half an hour but the French striker could not find an equaliser for the Blues.
"I was really very happy with the team, the use of Hazard like a striker. Then, after the goal, the position of Hazard was not important," said the 59-year-old.
Chelsea, fourth in the table, have struggled to get goals from their attackers all season, with the exception of Hazard, who has eight Premier League strikes.
Morata has just five league goals in 14 appearances and is set to return from injury when Chelsea face Watford on Boxing Day, but Sarri may persist with Hazard up front.
Sarri cannot comprehend why the issue of the Blues not being able to take advantage of their possession keeps recurring and he wants a response at Watford on Wednesday.
"If I knew, I (would have) solved the problem before this match," he said. "It's difficult to understand, because we have players with long experience, so it's very difficult to understand.
"In the match, we had a bad reaction. Now it depends on our reaction in the next three days."

Football: Jesus returns to boost City's title bid
MANCHESTER, United Kingdom (AFP) - Gabriel Jesus has returned to boost Manchester City's quadruple bid, offering much-needed relief for the club's record goal-scorer Sergio Aguero.
Aguero has been in prolific form for Pep Guardiola's side, scoring 12 goals since the turn of the year as City fight to retain the Premier League title.
But Jesus's fitness problems have piled an increased workload on Aguero, who played six games over 24 days in February while his City team-mate struggled with a hamstring injury in recent weeks.
However, Brazil forward Jesus is in competition to return as City visit Bournemouth on Saturday (March 2) looking to secure a victory that would temporarily move them two points ahead of Liverpool before the current leaders face Everton on Sunday.
Jesus's presence is a relief for Guardiola, whose squad has been stretched by the injuries to Fernandinho and Aymeric Laporte in last weekend's League Cup final win over Chelsea.
City captain Vincent Kompany has made a welcome return to the squad, playing three games in a week despite his long record of injury problems.
But Guardiola admitted handling Kompany's persistent fitness issues has been a challenge.
"It's not easy, in one time he's incredible, the only guy I've met who doesn't train for two months then can play 90 minutes after one and a half training sessions," Guardiola said.
"He knows his body perfectly. It's a risk. But John Stones is back, like Gabriel, we'll see tomorrow.
"Nico (Otamendi) cannot play against Schalke and Aymer is injured so let's see what he have to do.
"He likes to play the way we try to play. I've spoken to him. He adapts quite well, when we are not here he has been injured, the intensity, he knows his position perfectly, he knows the game.
"He understands what we need to do. We cannot use him so regularly because of his fitness but when he is fit he's an incredible player."
The situation regarding England midfielder Fabian Delph, who has been struggling with an ankle injury and illness, is less clear however, with Guardiola confirming that he is available but has not been selected for the trip to Bournemouth.
"He was injured but makes the training session. He can play but he's not in the squad," Guardiola said.

UDINE • Juventus pulled out all the stops last summer to land Cristiano Ronaldo in a €100 million (S$152.8 million) move from Real Madrid in an attempt to not only bolster their bid for a third Champions League trophy, but to also serve as a mentor to their fledgling stars.
Among the seven-time defending Italian champions' brightest talents is Moise Kean and, on Saturday, the striker showed the benefits of training alongside the star after becoming the first player born in the 21st century to score for the senior team as Italy beat Finland 2-0 in their Euro 2020 qualifying opener.
While the 19-year-old has been used sparingly by Juventus this season, with a single start and three appearances off the bench in Serie A, he has already netted twice in the league and is considered to be one of Italian football's most promising prospects.
Kean, who was born in Vercelli to Ivorian parents, already has several records to his name - he is the first player born in the 2000s to appear and score in a league game as well as play in the Champions League.
And, after notching Italy's second goal - Nicolo Barella also earned his maiden international strike - to get their Group J campaign off to the perfect start, he revealed that he "stole Ronaldo's secrets in training".
He said: "I learn from Cristiano Ronaldo. I always try to be ready and train regularly so that I'm prepared when the time comes.
"This is a beautiful evening, but I know that I still have so many records to beat and I intend to beat them.
"Making history with the Azzurri is one more reason to keep working. There are many goals ahead of me and I want to reach them.
"When I got the call (to join the national team), I was fired up, excited, eager to show what I could do.
"(Fellow striker) Ciro (Immobile) gave me a great assist, and it's thanks to him and the whole team that I was able to score."
Although Kean, who was playing only his second international game, had not been expected to be part of the first XI in Udine, forward Federico Chiesa's injury was his gain as coach Roberto Mancini handed him his first start.
The former Manchester City boss, who gave him his Azzurri debut in a 1-0 friendly win over the United States last November, was thrilled the decision to plump for youth had paid off, with the teenager becoming the country's second-youngest goalscorer after Bruno Nicole.
Hailing "his great qualities", Mancini added: "it's all up to him - the margins for improvement are enormous."
The 54-year-old also hinted it was "entirely possible" Italy could in the future field Kean alongside Mario Balotelli, who was not called up for the qualifiers, in what would be a strike pairing of African descent.
While Mancini will make changes to their line-up at home to likely whipping boys Liechtenstein tomorrow to "mainly bring in some freshness", he knows the new players who have been integrated into the national set-up are showing they have the temperament and quality to play on the international stage.
He said: "Our youngsters have qualities that cannot be denied, it does not take much to understand it."

Tottenham still in title race: Son
Tottenham still in title race: Son
LONDON • Tottenham Hotspur will once again look to Son Heung-min for inspiration in the absence of injured captain Harry Kane and midfielder Dele Alli as they take on Newcastle United, who shocked champions Manchester City in midweek.
The South Korean played his first English Premier League match on Wednesday since returning from the Asian Cup and was the standout player against Watford as he netted their crucial equaliser before Spurs ran out 2-1 winners.
Mauricio Pochettino knows how much he needs Son in the absence of Kane and Alli, even if he is aware of the need to avoid burnout.
"He finished very tired, with some cramp. We're going to see if he can recover for the next game," said the Spurs boss after the win.
"If he's okay, maybe he's going to be in the starting XI, if not on the bench. For sure if we need him, he's going to help the team."
Spurs remain seven points adrift of league leaders Liverpool but are now just two points behind second-placed Manchester City.
And Son is adamant that the north London side can still win the Premier League title this season.
"I don't care that people are saying Liverpool or Man City," he said.
"We are still there, we're going for it. They're very good sides like us. We have to just focus on ourselves.
"Every single game, get three points, that's most important. We just believe in our own game, get as many points as possible, and see what happens at the end of the season."
With Kane still sidelined and Fernando Llorente the only backup striker, Pochettino has welcomed forgotten man Vincent Janssen back into the first-team fold.
The Dutch striker, who has been turning out for Spurs' Under-23 side this season as he sought a move away to get his career back on track, had been expected to depart on deadline day on Thursday.
But, despite being linked with several clubs, Spurs found no takers for Janssen at their price point.
Pochettino is now ready to give the 24-year-old a chance to revive his career in England, especially after Mousa Dembele left for China and Georges-Kevin Nkoudou completed a loan move to Monaco.
Asked about Janssen in a press conference yesterday, Pochettino said: "From today, he will be involved in the first team."
Pochettino also gave an update on Kane's recovery from an ankle injury sustained against Manchester United last month. The England international has posted a video on social media which shows that he is already back in light training.
Asked if Kane might be back sooner than the early March date which was originally suggested, Pochettino said: "He is showing on social media that he looks very strong and very fit...
"He is very strong and will put in 200 per cent to try and return as soon as possible. We need to assess, but we are happy in the way that he is recovering."
On Alli, who injured his hamstring against Fulham, Pochettino added: "Dele is the same as Harry - he is doing well."
