Football: Juventus lose their stripes as new kit unveiled

MILAN (AFP) - Serie A champions Juventus on Sunday (May 12) unveiled their new home kit for the 2019-20 season, which for the first time in over a century removes the iconic black-and-white stripes traditionally worn by players.
The club were founded in 1897, but players have worn black and white stripes of various types since 1903.
Next season Cristiano Ronaldo and his teammates will wear a half-and-half jersey with white on the right and black on the left.
The team will debut the new jersey against Roma in Serie A later on Sunday in Rome's Stadio Olimpico.
"The daring new design evokes the past, whilst igniting the future of the club through the evolution of the iconic black and white stripes," the team said.
"An unexpected flash of pink sits at the heart of the design and honours the first colour the club ever played in."
Juventus are the record Serie A winners with 35 titles, including the last eight in a row.

Mbappe sent off in Cup shock
PARIS ̢ۢ Kylian Mbappe was sent off for a shocking tackle as Paris Saint-Germain were stunned by Rennes in Saturday's French Cup final, losing 6-5 on penalties after a dramatic game finished 2-2 at the end of extra time.
PSG substitute Christopher Nkunku blazed his sudden-death spot kick over the bar in the shoot-out, sparking scenes of joy among the Rennes fans at the Stade de France as they won a first trophy in almost half a century.
"It has been talked about enough at the club in the last few weeks for us to realise that we have achieved something historic," said Rennes coach Julien Stephan.
It was a remarkable comeback from the Brittany side, who had seen Dani Alves and the returning Neymar give Ligue 1 champions PSG a 2-0 lead midway through the first half. PSG looked poised to wrap up a domestic double, but Presnel Kimpembe's own goal gave Rennes hope and Mexer headed them level in the 66th minute to force extra time.
Penalties were already looming when Mbappe, who endured a frustrating evening, was shown a straight red card in the 118th minute.
He caught Rennes defender Damien da Silva on the knee with his studs, and can expect a lengthy ban.
PSG coach Thomas Tuchel said: "He had a slight muscle injury yesterday, he stopped training early and went to hospital for tests. Maybe that was in his head. You got the feeling he was lacking confidence and didn't feel free. The red card at the end, it's not him."
PSG fell short of securing the double in Tuchel's first season in charge, which will also be remembered for the club's Champions League exit to Manchester United in the last 16.
"I am sad," said Neymar. "We weren't quite up to it, but there is no point crying about it now. There is nothing we can do."

Minnows Yangon can pack a punch

Tampines Rovers could seal passage to the Asean zone semi-finals of the AFC Cup with a win over Yangon United at the Jalan Besar Stadium today, but Stags head coach Kadir Yahaya has warned his charges to be wary of the Myanmar side.
With two matches left, Tampines lead Group F with 10 points, three ahead of Vietnam's Hanoi FC.
Cambodian side Nagaworld and Yangon have three points apiece but the former are third because of a better head-to-head record.
Yangon are all but out of the running for a place in the knock-out stages - they are unlikely to finish as the best second-placed team among the three Asean groups - which makes them a threat, according to Kadir.
At the pre-game media conference at the Copthorne King's Hotel yesterday, the former Singapore international said: "They have nothing to lose, and so the danger we are facing is that they are playing with no objective.
"They can attack at will, and for us it is important to remain calm, keep our shape and composure."
The caution is understandable after Tampines struggled before beating Nagaworld 4-2 through three goals in the dying minutes in their last game on April 17.

UNBRIDLED ATTACK
They have nothing to lose, and so the danger we are facing is that they are playing with no objective. They can attack at will, and for us it is important to remain calm, keep our shape and composure.
KADIR YAHAYA, Tampines head coach, on Yangon's attack.

Kadir said of that match: "We expected their (Nagaworld's) fast counter attacks, and there were some lapses in concentration on our part which resulted in them equalising (to make it 1-1)."
"Credit to the players, they kept fighting and eventually we got the goals and result we wanted."
His experienced stars like Khairul Amri and Daniel Bennett will be key to getting a win against Yangon to lift the team after their poor run of just three draws in their last four Singapore Premier League (SPL) matches.
Kadir believes that squad rotation - essential when competing in the AFC Cup - affects the team's consistency, and pointed to how Home United also suffered domestically during their run to the Asean zone crown last year, and how the Protectors posted stronger results in the SPL after the group stage of the AFC Cup.
Home won just twice in their first seven SPL games last term, but notched 10 wins in their next 17 matches to finish second.
Yangon coach Myo Min Tun is expecting a tough night for his charges, especially without first-choice goalkeeper Kyaw Zin Htet (illness) and Guinean striker Sekou Sylla (suspension).
"Tampines have many good and skilful individual players, like the two wingers (Ryutaro Megumi and Jordan Webb)," noted the 35-year-old, who scored for Myanmar against Singapore in the 2008 AFF Suzuki Cup.
"Tomorrow will be very difficult for us, but we will do our best to challenge and show our level and our team's playing style."

Football: Premier League to probe Man City over finances

LONDON (AFP) - The Premier League has launched an investigation into the reports surrounding Manchester City's alleged financial misconduct.
Uefa, European football's governing body, said on Thursday (March 7) it is looking into "several alleged violations" concerning Financial Fair Play (FFP) at City.
That probe came after German magazine Der Spiegel, using material purportedly obtained from the whistleblowing outlet Football Leaks, alleged in November that City had set up sponsorship deals to circumvent regulations limiting how much money owners can put into a club.
A ban from Uefa competitions, including the Champions League, is a potential punishment if City are found guilty of FFP breaches.
City claim the allegations are "entirely false", but the Premier League have decided to open their own investigation of the English champions' financial matters.
As well as the issues under the Uefa microscope, the Premier League will also focus on City's academy player recruitment and third-party ownership.
"The Premier League has previously contacted Manchester City to request information regarding recent allegations and is in ongoing dialogue with the club," a Premier League statement read.

"The League has detailed financial regulations and strong rules in the areas of Academy player recruitment and third-party ownership.
"We are currently investigating these matters and will allow Manchester City every opportunity to explain the context and detail surrounding them." City were fined €60 million (S$90 million) and subjected to squad, wage and spending caps in a 2014 settlement agreed with Uefa following a previous breach of the rules.
City manager Pep Guardiola, whose side are currently top of the Premier League, insisted on Friday that the financial probes wouldn't tarnish his legacy.
Guardiola has won the Premier League and two League Cups with City and is chasing an unprecedented quadruple this season.

De Gea set to get record pay deal

De Gea set to get record pay deal
LONDON ̢ۢ Manchester United are prepared to give David de Gea the largest basic pay package in English football history and are increasingly confident he will sign a long-term contract extension with the Premier League club.
While leading the search to appoint a new permanent manager and director of football, United's executive chairman Ed Woodward also regards tying de Gea down as a priority and is pressing ahead with attempts to conclude a deal.
Reports that de Gea is demanding £350,000 (S$612,000) a week to stay, only to be rebuffed, have raised eyebrows at Old Trafford, given that United would be likely to accept a wage at around that mark in recognition of the Spain No. 1's importance on the pitch.
It is thought United would consider a new five-year contract guaranteeing in excess of £90 million - exceeding the totals guaranteed in the contracts of other top earners such as Arsenal's Mesut Ozil, and United teammates Alexis Sanchez and Paul Pogba.
The Red Devils would see such rewards as appropriate for a goalkeeper who can claim to be the best in the world in his position and has been the club's Player of the Year in four of his past five seasons.
The signs are that de Gea wants to extend his eight-year stay at United and there is a feeling that only unrealistic agent demands would threaten the deal.
Woodward also hopes to finalise extensions for Marcus Rashford, Ander Herrera and Juan Mata in the coming weeks.
After already agreeing new deals for Anthony Martial, Luke Shaw, Ashley Young, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Scott McTominay this season, Woodward told investors in a conference call on Thursday: "We want to finish off the final few."
Appointing a permanent successor to Jose Mourinho and a new director of football are still scheduled for the end of the season.
United, however, first need to turn their attention to on-pitch matters, starting with today's FA Cup fifth-round tie at Chelsea.
While Solskjaer's men have injury worries up front with Martial and Jesse Lingard already ruled out, Sanchez may still have to make do with a place on the bench given his woeful form.
Having scored only five goals in 37 appearances since moving from Arsenal in January last year, he expressed his concerns over "losing his spark". The Chile forward told the BBC: "I would like to have brought more joy to the club. Yes, it worries me because I believe in my abilities as a player, I want to show it."

Football: Champions League final may 'mess' with England's Nations League schedule, laments Southgate

(REUTERS) - England's preparations for their Nations League semi-final against the Netherlands on June 6 could be thrown into disarray if two English Premier League teams reach the Champions League final, national team manager Gareth Southgate has said.
The Champions League final will be held in Madrid on June 1, with England set to play their semi-final in Portugal five days later, leaving him little time to work with his players.
"It could be a mess," the 48-year-old told reporters on Wednesday (March 13). "Let's say if two of our teams made it to the Champions League final then we wouldn't see them, at best, until the Monday before we play on the Thursday.
"And with the emotion of (the Champions League final), can those players even realistically play on the Thursday night for us?"
Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City and Liverpool are in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, the first time since 2009 that four teams from England's top flight have reached the competition's last-eight.
Southgate's squad for this month's European Championship qualifiers has 13 players from the four clubs, including Spurs striker Harry Kane, Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson and City winger Raheem Sterling.
"They would all need a period where they would need to psychologically switch off," he added. "We'd have to look at Champions League final players when we get to it.
"It will be a little bit like the World Cup in that players will finish at different times."
England face the Czech Republic at Wembley on March 22 followed by a trip to Montenegro three days later.

VALLETTA ̢ۢ Spain coach Luis Enrique put up a vigorous defence of Alvaro Morata after the striker was heavily criticised over the weekend for another wasteful display in their opening Euro 2020 qualifying win over Norway, insisting he had "his best match with us".
And while the former Barcelona boss was unable to take his place in the dugout owing to family reasons, the Chelsea striker, on loan at Atletico Madrid, repaid Enrique's faith in him with a brace as Spain beat Malta 2-0 away on Tuesday to move to the top of Group F.
Afterwards, the 26-year-old, who scored his first goals for the national team since November 2017 to make it 15 goals in 29 appearances, claimed Enrique's absence had given the squad "extra motivation".
Morata, who has now scored more than any other Spanish player between his international debut in November 2014 and 2019, said: "We always want to win every game but today, we wanted to win for our coach.
"He knows how happy I am to be here. What we want is to qualify as soon as possible for Euro 2020 and it was important to win. We won away and we move on."
Athletic Bilbao winger Iker Muniain, who came off the bench, added: "It was a very difficult game and we dedicate this victory to the boss and his family, we did as best as we could and this goes out to him."
Earlier, the Spanish Football Federation had "asked for discretion and respect for his privacy" after Enrique had to return home, with assistant coach Robert Moreno standing in for him.
But despite the "difficult situation", the 48-year-old still ensured his team were well prepared for their opponents and Sergio Ramos praised his meticulousness.

  • 15 Goals Alvaro Morata has scored for Spain, the most for any La Roja player between 2014 and 2019.
121 Wins Sergio Ramos has enjoyed with Spain, a record he shares with goalkeeper Iker Casillas.

The skipper told Spanish daily Marca: "The group has felt for the coach. In this team, we're all a family and everyone feels each other's personal problems."
The Real Madrid defender, who also equalled Iker Casillas' all-time win record of 121 wins with Spain on the night, is now just four caps shy of tying the goalkeeper's mark for the most number of appearances for La Roja ( 167).
Hailing the former Real custodian and the player he succeeded as club captain as "a living legend", Ramos admitted he had designs on "overtaking his record".
He also told Marca: "Since I started, he had always told me that the only thing capable of overcoming him was a situation like mine.
"You cannot be winning all your life. You have to have good times and bad moments, the changes generate positive things. It won't all be negatives, there is some joy in football."

'Cold' Emery won't play to Arsenal crowd

LONDON ̢ۢ Unai Emery insisted that he would continue to make "cold" decisions after he was booed by Arsenal fans at the Emirates on Tuesday, when he took off Alexandre Lacazette and brought on Aaron Ramsey during the 4-1 Premier League win over Fulham.
The Gunners manager said he would not listen to supporters because it was his job to make the tactical move to stop Jean Michael Seri advancing from midfield.
Seri came on when Fulham trailed 2-0 and won possession at the start of the move that reduced the deficit. He looked as though he might create an equaliser.
The home supporters initially booed Emery but striker Lacazette, who scored his side's second goal, turned their reaction into cheers by applauding the Emirates crowd.
Midfielder Ramsey then scored within four minutes of coming on.
"We need to make decisions with a very cold mind that is for the best," said Emery, whose side have won only two of their last six games in all competitions.
"I understand the supporters, but I need to do my work. Our challenge is to improve defensively.
"Tactically, we thought we needed to change for more balance. We knew Seri was coming and needed a player close to him."

The Gunners were shaken by a 5-1 thrashing from leaders Liverpool last Saturday exposing their defensive frailty, and that weakness was evident again against the Cottagers. Their nerves were eased in the 25th minute when Granit Xhaka struck after collecting a chip into the box from Alex Iwobi on his chest and slotting home.
Following Lacazette's goal to make it 2-0, Aboubakar Kamara pulled one back for Fulham in the 69th minute before Ramsey and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang rounded off the win for Arsenal.
Shkodran Mustafi came off at the interval after he felt a recurrence of the hamstring injury suffered last month. Arsenal are short of centre-backs but Emery said he had not spoken to Gary Cahill, available on loan from Chelsea.
"We can sign one or two players if the transfer market gives us an opportunity," he said. "But it is not easy."

EPL players in 24-hour boycott of social media
LONDON ̢ۢ Professional footballers in England and Wales, including leading Premier League players, staged a 24-hour boycott of social media yesterday to protest against racist abuse, both online and from the terraces.
The #Enough online campaign was organised by the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) after a spate of abusive posts to black players, including Manchester United full-back Ashley Young and Watford captain Troy Deeney.
The hate-filled messages came in the wake of racist chants and gestures by Montenegro fans towards Tottenham defender Danny Rose, Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling and Chelsea forward Callum Hudson-Odoi during England's 5-1 Euro 2020 qualifying victory in Podgorica last month.
The PFA is calling for social media companies like Facebook and Twitter to act more quickly over abusive message, and for the footballing authorities to take stronger action on racism.
Backing the campaign, Manchester United defender Chris Smalling said: "Throughout my career, I have developed a thick skin against verbal abuse, justifying it as just 'part of the game'. But the time has come for Twitter, Instagram and Facebook to consider regulating their channels."
Rose, who recently revealed he "could not wait to see the back of football" as he had become so worn down by racism, added: "I don't want any future players to go through what I've been through in my career.
"Collectively, we are simply not willing to stand by while too little is done by football authorities and social media companies to protect players from this disgusting abuse."
Leicester skipper Wes Morgan also claimed that "we came together on Friday to say that more must now be done to eradicate racism from our game", while Deeney felt "the players are speaking out with one voice against racism (to show) that enough is enough".

Football: Salah, Origi strike to give Liverpool Champions League triumph

Football: Salah, Origi strike to give Liverpool Champions League triumph

MADRID (REUTERS) - Liverpool ended an incredible season by winning Europe̢۪s biggest prize after beating Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 in Saturday̢۪s (June 1) all-English Champions League final, earning sweet redemption after agonisingly missing out on the Premier League title.
Mohamed Salah scored the second-quickest goal in a Champions League final by converting from the penalty spot in the second minute while Divock Origi sealed victory in the 87th after Liverpool had survived some heavy late pressure from Spurs.
Tottenham, in their first European Cup final, kept their heads after the early setback and came to life when semi-final hat-trick hero Lucas Moura was brought on but, with Harry Kane lacking sharpness, another European comeback was beyond them.
Liverpool, who missed out on the Premier League title to Manchester City by one point, did not produce their usual whirlwind attacking game but Salah̢۪s debatable penalty and Origi̢۪s arrowed finish sealed a sixth European Cup triumph.
â€Å“Everyone is happy now,” said Salah as the Liverpool fans rejoiced. â€Å“I am glad to play the second final in a row and play 90 minutes finally. Everyone did his best today, no great individual performances, all the team was unbelievable.”
Right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold who had marauded down the flank all night, added: â€Å“It is hard to put into words. The season we have had, we deserved it more than any other team.”
The win at the Wanda Metropolitano was sweet redemption for Salah and especially Klopp, who had suffered defeat in his last six major finals, including Champions League showpieces with Borussia Dortmund in 2013 and Liverpool last year.
â€Å“I am so happy for the boys all these people, and my family. They suffer for me, they deserve it more than anybody,” said the elated German.
â€Å“Did you ever see a team like, this, fighting with no fuel in the tank? And we have a keeper (Alisson Becker) who makes difficult things look easy. It is the best night of our professional lives.”
His opposite number Mauricio Pochettino praised his team̢۪s determined efforts to get themselves back into the game.
â€Å“We were fighting, and we played so well in the second half. I feel so proud, a little bit unlucky. To be 1-0 down from the start was tough, we changed our plans but we are very proud of these players and these fans. We can be optimistic.”

OUTSTANDING SEASON

Liverpool̢۪s win was reward for an outstanding season in which they picked up a club record 97 points in the Premier League but finished behind Pep Guardiola̢۪s Manchester City, falling just short of a first league title in 29 years.
However, a sixth European Cup, which took them ahead of Barcelona and Bayern Munich on the all-time list and means they only trail AC Milan on seven triumphs and Real Madrid with 13, will help to compensate for that disappointment.

It was Liverpool̢۪s first Champions League triumph since their incredible comeback against Milan in 2005 and, while this victory lacked the blockbuster drama of that night in Istanbul, it was not exactly a smooth ride in a lacklustre affair.
Tottenham manager Pochettino took a bold but ultimately misguided gamble in fielding Kane, who had only returned to full training a week ago after almost two months out with a serious ankle injury and struggled to influence play.

The England striker was far from the only player from both sides who lacked sharpness in a game with few moments of quality, a possible effect of neither side having played any competitive games for three weeks after the domestic season.
Spurs put Liverpool under real pressure in the latter stages as Dele Alli headed over and Son Heung-min and Moura forced impressive saves from Alisson, who also pulled off his best effort to beat away a free kick from Christian Eriksen.
The Brazilian keeper̢۪s reliable display was in stark contrast to what happened last year in Kiev, when Liverpool̢۪s Loris Karius made two horrendous errors which cost his side two goals in their painful 3-1 defeat by Real Madrid.
When the final whistle went, Alisson was mobbed by his team mates while Klopp ran on to the pitch to embrace Origi, one of the heroes in the stunning semi-final second-leg turnaround against Barcelona, who killed the game with a ruthless finish.

Football: Kane starts for Tottenham in Champions League final

MADRID (AFP) - Harry Kane returned from almost two months out with injury to start for Tottenham in the Champions League final against Liverpool on Saturday (June 1).
Kane has not played since damaging ankle ligaments in the first leg of the quarter-finals against Manchester City on April 9 but gave Spurs a major boost by being passed fit in Madrid.
â€Å“I think we believed and we felt that in the last few weeks he was ready to compete,” coach Mauricio Pochettino told BT Sport before kick-off.
â€Å“We give him time to feel that emotion and determination, and yesterday we confirmed that he was ready.”
Coach Mauricio Pochettino dropped Lucas Moura to make room for Kane, despite Moura scoring an incredible hat-trick as Tottenham came back to knock out Ajax in the semis.
Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen and Son Heung-min were selected behind Kane in attacking midfield.
Liverpool's own centre forward Roberto Firmino also made it into Jurgen Klopp's starting line-up at the Wanda Metropolitano.
Firmino had missed Liverpool's last three games with a groin injury, with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane completing the front three.
James Milner dropped to the bench, as Klopp picked a midfield trio of Jordan Henderson, Fabinho and Georginio Wijnaldum, who scored twice in Liverpool's stunning semi-final fightback against Barcelona.
Starting line-ups for the Champions League final between Liverpool and Tottenham at the Wanda Metropolitano on Saturday (kick-off 1900 GMT):

Be complacent and Blues can 'destroy us', says Silva
LONDON ̢ۢ Manchester City must forget their 6-0 drubbing of Chelsea earlier this month and cannot afford to be complacent against the Blues in tomorrow's League Cup final, midfielder Bernardo Silva has said.
Chelsea's capitulation at the Etihad Stadium was their worst Premier League defeat and the club have dropped to sixth in the table.
Silva, however, said the recent result would not have a bearing on their Wembley clash.
"To be honest, we should forget that match because it won't happen again, we are not expecting the same result," said League Cup holders City's midfielder.
"We are playing against one of the best sides in the world, even though lately their results are not the best for them.
"Against those kinds of players, you can never relax and, if you give them time to think, time to play and time to decide, they will destroy you."

The Portuguese added that City must now win back-to-back titles in order for the club to be seriously considered as serial winners.
"We have to play with the same intensity and try to win another trophy. We have not managed to retain a trophy before so it would mean a lot to do so, that is one our main goals," he said.
"Not only winning it once but also keep winning and winning. We know we have the squad to do that. But our opponents are very strong and it won't be an easy job."

City won the League Cup by beating Arsenal 3-0 in last season's final. It was their 15th major trophy and became part of a third double when Pep Guardiola's side secured the Premier League title in April.
In comparison, the two clubs are tied on five League Cup wins, behind Liverpool's eight titles.
Guardiola is well-poised to add another title to a sterling managerial career which featured 20 major trophies, including 10 wins in 11 Cup finals.
Chelsea's Maurizio Sarri, on the other hand, has not even coached in a Cup final.
Former Arsenal midfielder and Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson believes that City's quality could prove too much for Chelsea if Sarri refuses to alter his tactics.
"If Chelsea set up as they have done (in the 2-0 FA Cup loss to Manchester United) and play 'Sarri-ball', I would be shocked if it wasn't at least 3-0 to Man City," he said.
"Good managers change, that's what they do, you don't just go everywhere and play the same way, especially after losing 6-0 against the same team a few weeks ago.
"If they change the way they play, you never know in a Cup final."

The persistent jeering by the Atletico Madrid faithful had been expected on his first visit to the Wanda Metropolitano stadium since leaving cross-town rivals Real Madrid for Juventus in the summer.
But all he had to show to the baying home fans was a five-fingered taunt to signify his five Champions League trophies as Juventus slumped to a 2-0 loss in the first leg of their last-16 tie on Wednesday night.
The seven-time defending Italian champions splashed out €100 million (S$153.5 million) on the Portuguese star forward in the hope that he would help them end 23 years of hurt in Europe's top club competition.
Instead, Ronaldo and Co are on the brink of elimination at the very first hurdle in the knockout stages.
Juventus were kept at bay by Atletico's rearguard before Diego Simeone made a shrewd tactical move with a triple attacking substitution - Angel Correa, Thomas Lemar and Alvaro Morata - after the break.
The breakthrough came in the 78th minute when Jose Gimenez scored after Morata's knockdown from a corner by Lemar.
Five minutes later, Diego Godin doubled their lead following a free kick, giving his team a huge advantage ahead of the March 12 return leg.
The Spanish LaLiga club have now kept a clean sheet in all three of their Champions League games against Juventus.
And they are unbeaten in their last 12 home matches in the knockout stages.
And Simeone, who provocatively celebrated Gimenez's opener by placing his hands over his groin, was delighted at how his players "represented the true meaning of Atletico".
Claiming he "felt the need to do it (the gesture)", the Argentinian said: "It wasn't aimed at the other team. Doing what we have done over these years is not easy, and today, we did it again."
While Simeone will be without Diego Costa and Thomas Partey through suspension in the second leg, he will be confident of repelling Juventus, who will not be able to call on the banned Alex Sandro in Turin.
Atletico are aiming to reach this season's final, which will be held in their stadium, and lift their maiden European Cup.

Football: Klopp, Guardiola would back players leaving pitch over racist abuse

LONDON (REUTERS) - Juergen Klopp and Pep Guardiola are both willing to halt matches if players are subject to racist abuse, the like of which experienced by some England players in Montenegro this week.
Uefa has opened an investigation after England players Danny Rose, Raheem Sterling and Callum Hudson-Odoi said they were victims of the abuse during their 5-1 win in Podgorica.
Liverpool manager Klopp believes a walk off because of a minority of supporters would give "too much power for one or two idiots", but said the decision should be down to match officials if abuse escalated.
"If it's the whole stand I would do it, 100 per cent," Klopp told reporters ahead of Sunday's Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur.
"But it's too much power for one or two idiots. We have to find ways to punish these incidents.
"It's not that the coaches should do that - match officials - because if I take the players off and they say it was not that serious, you lose the game, our job is to win football games."
Guardiola is also in favour of taking his Manchester City players off the pitch, adding football should try and set an example for action against racism.

"We could do that (walk off)," the Spaniard added.
"Football is a strong weapon to defend the principles of humanity. People said you can't mix football and politics but that's not true.
"It's not a football problem, it's society itself. I think in Europe, not in football, it's getting worse."
The Football Association Board met on Thursday to discuss the incidents in Montenegro and called on a structured campaign within Uefa and Fifa to ensure that incidents such as this are dealt with appropriately.
The Board also agreed that there should be more transparency on FA charges going forward when clubs are found to be in breach of the rules following such incidents in the domestic game.
Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri, meanwhile, wants the sport's governing bodies to introduce clear guidelines to stop matches in order to combat racist abuse.
"We need a rule, I think. A rule for the Premier League, but for all the championships across football. A rule that can permit us to stop the match," Sarri said.

Casillas reassures he is okay following heart attack scare
PORTO ̢ۢ Spain's World Cup-winning captain Iker Casillas has told his fans that he is "feeling strong" after suffering a heart attack while training with Portuguese champions Porto on Wednesday.
Hospital medical reports revealed there was an obstruction of the right coronary artery for the 37-year-old, who has won all the major honours in the game, including the 2010 World Cup and three Champions League trophies.
The goalkeeper, who has already been ruled out of playing for the remainder of Porto's season, tweeted on Wednesday: "Everything under control here, it was a big scare. Thanks a lot for all your messages and your support."
Get-well wishes poured in from the footballing community after the news broke, with Real Madrid offering "all our support" for their former captain, their second-most capped player behind striker Raul Gonzalez (741).
The Spanish national team, of which Casillas has the all-time record of 167 caps, tweeted: "All the family at the national team and the Spanish football federation are with you. Get well soon."
Cristiano Ronaldo, his former Real teammate, also posted on his Instagram page an image of the pair together with the message: "Have strength, my friend. I hope you get well soon."
One of Spain's best-known sporting personalities, "Saint Iker" came through Real's academy and spent the bulk of his career there, making 725 appearances between 1999 and 2015 before joining Porto.
Spanish sports website Don Balon claims that the heart attack was probably the result of genetic issues because it is uncommon for people under 40 to suffer from the problem.
It also said that Casillas would have to consider hanging up his boots given the chances of the issue occurring again if he continues playing top-level football.

Football: Perez hat-trick ends Newcastle relegation fears

NEWCASTLE, England (REUTERS) - An inspired Ayoze Perez helped Newcastle United put any lingering Premier League relegation fears to bed with a hat-trick in a 3-1 win over Southampton at St James' Park on Saturday (April 20).
The Spaniard scored twice before halftime to put the hosts in command and killed off Southampton late on after Mario Lemina's goal had revived the Saints.
Victory lifted Newcastle 10 points above third-bottom Cardiff City who face title-chasing Liverpool on Sunday.
Southampton remained five points clear of the drop zone.
"I feel very happy to get the hat-trick and help the team to get three important points that puts us in a great position," said Perez, who took his league tally for the season into double figures for the first time at Newcastle.
"We're now 12th which means a lot. It's been a couple of months that are very important for us. We've done very well, We've got great results and now that we're safe we're going to start looking forward and up and finish even better."
The home crowd were still moaning about a James Ward-Prowse body-check on Miguel Almiron when Perez scored twice in three minutes to fuel a jubilant mood in the Easter sunshine.
First he turned beautifully before firing right-footed past Angus Gunn in the 27th minute and with Southampton still reeling he slid in to meet Salomon Rondon's low cross.
When Ki Sung-yueng was denied a third for Newcastle shortly after halftime, his skidding shot thudding against the post, the hosts were in complete control, but Southampton were not done.
Mario Lemina halved the deficit just before the hour mark with a clinical finish from Stuart Armstrong's cross and the visitors were suddenly looking the more likely to score.
In a frantic end-to-end finale, Almiron went off with a hamstring injury and Gunn made a superb save to keep out Isaac Hayden's deflected volley before Perez touched home in the 86th minute to calm the home crowd's jitters.
There was still time for Southampton to threaten again but Maya Yoshida's header was brilliantly saved by Martin Dubravka.
